Engaging New Volunteer Leadership – COV + Tell
Dan Allen and Denise Donahue, Kenton Co., KY – Engaging New Volunteer Leadership – COV + Tell
Cov + Tell is a community project organized by the Kenton County Cooperative Extension Service. The project is aimed at celebrating and gathering feedback about the city we all know and love: Covington.
We’re collecting stories in the form of photos, short videos, and written submissions from citizens of Covington, Kentucky, and using the submissions we receive to create a final project interpreting and showcasing the voices of Covington. The data gathered will also be used to inform decisions on community programming, development, and more!
Cov + Tell project is progressing. Our committee has worked diligently to get
everything prepared for this project. We have prepared press boxes to distribute to
local businesses in all of the Covington neighborhoods. The box distribution will take
place on June 21st. This is when the project will start and we will begin collecting data.
We hope to collect data through August. The final results of the project
will be presented in early fall.
- Recruit leaders from Covington to become part of our County Extension Council. Extension had not always been able to engage adult leaders in their early careers. (20's 30's) With the recent surge of early-career residents in Covington, we felt this may be a good time to tap into this leadership resource. These folks may be non-Extension users and may not look like our current council. Jeff suggested that we prepare our council by offering some sort of diversity and inclusion pieces of training.
- Our anticipated outcomes are:
- adding some nontraditional leaders into our CEC (specifically the early career urban residents.)
- Creating a list of potential programs urban residents are interested in.
- Formulate a CEC that is inclusive of all communities in Kenton County
- Create a working (recipe) model that can be shared or published in a journal.
- Create a mobile art display from the images collected around Covington.
